While in the ghetto, food begins to become sparse to the point where Elli’s mother states that she is glad they are taking her family to the labor camps.  Elli later becomes lucky to see a family friend on the outside of the fence, who hands her food through the fence.  Elli says this quote as she walks away from the fence with this food.
