The train stops again.  Finally, the U.S. Army comes to liberate Elli and her family.  Bubi survived the shot to the head.  Elli says this quote as she realizes she is free, but does not yet feel free.  She thinks about how her life is changed forever, and how she never knows how it will become "normal" again.
