As the train stops again, prisoners begin to run towards nearby woods.  Some are unable to go far, and Elli, her brother, and her mother take shelter under the train.  U.S. Air Force planes begin bombing and attacking the area, killing people nearby Elli and her family.  The raid ends and they are ordered to get back on the train, and Elli's brother is wounded in the head.
